Brazil's total energy production increased by an average annual growth rate of 1.5% from 2011 to 2021. Petroleum and other liquids accounted for most of the energy production increase, followed by natural gas. Brazil's energy production in 2021 accounted for 2.0% of global production and 48.8% of South America's total.

In particular, the analysis highlights the Permian production region of western Texas and eastern New Mexico, which is the most prolific crude oil production region in the United States and the source of most of the country's associated natural gas production.
