ISO-New England issues Forward Capacity Auction results starting in June 2027

(Wed, 28 Feb 2024) ISO-New England (ISONE) earlier this month issued the results of its Forward Capacity Auction (FCA) #18, covering commitment period June 2027 to May 2028. Under FCA #18 ISONE secured resource commitments of 31,556 megawatts (MW), or nearly the same as the 31,370 MW cleared in FCA #17. About 2,000 MW less capacity cleared the past two auctions compared with the 33,956 MW cleared in FCA #14, which is the current commitment period of June 2023 to May 2024.

Iraq Country Analysis Brief

(Wed, 14 Feb 2024) Iraq holds some of the world’s largest oil reserves and is the second-largest producer in OPEC after Saudi Arabia. Although Iraq intends to increase its crude oil production capacity, Iraq’s export infrastructure is constrained and midstream projects are often delayed because of insufficient investment and bureaucratic hurdles. In addition, Turkey stopped crude oil flows from northern Iraq through the Iraq-to-Turkey pipeline in March 2023, which has severely limited northern Iraq’s crude oil exports.

Renewable Electricity Infrastructure and Resources Dashboard

(Fri, 05 Jan 2024) We have created a new dashboard of renewable electric energy in our U.S. Energy Atlas. This dashboard will consolidate the previous Biomass, Geothermal, Hydroelectric, Wind, and Solar maps into one new product that includes a map as well as charts and tables. This new tool provides stakeholders the ability to make selections and filter by state or renewable source.

The Year in Review

(Tue, 19 Dec 2023) We released a list of our notable accomplishments for 2023, highlighting our products and programs from this year.

U.S. Lower 48 states shale gas and oil plays map

(Mon, 18 Dec 2023) We updated the Lower 48 states shale and tight formation oil and natural gas plays map. This map is based on recent well-level data, including formation depth and reservoir properties, along with hydrocarbon production, and shows major play extends in the key producing basins in the Lower 48 states.

CBECS all-electric building estimates

(Mon, 18 Dec 2023) We have released a new set of data tables for commercial buildings using only electricity for certain end uses. These estimates may serve as a baseline for electrification policies and to understand the market for all-electric building technologies and equipment.

Emerging Hydrocarbon Products in Africa Country Analysis Brief

(Fri, 08 Dec 2023) Africa has significant hydrocarbon resources, with basins that are considered underexplored and that may hold large resources that could be commercially viable. This briefing will focus on Namibia, Kenya, Uganda, Mauritania, Senegal, and Mozambique. These countries have uncovered hydrocarbon discoveries that may be potentially significant and commercially viable, which has led to increased investor interest in upstream exploration and development in their respective territories.

Brazil Country Analysis Brief

(Mon, 04 Dec 2023) Brazil's energy mix is diverse; hydropower, fossil fuels, biofuels, wind energy, and solar power all make significant contributions. Brazil's total energy production increased by an average annual growth rate of 1.5% from 2011 to 2021. Petroleum and other liquids accounted for most of the energy production increase, followed by natural gas. Brazil's energy production in 2021 accounted for 2.0% of global production and 48.8% of South America's total.

How do different crude oil prices affect U.S. crude oil and natural gas production?

(Thu, 16 Nov 2023) The November edition of EIA's Short-Term Energy Outlook (STEO) now includes analysis of three crude oil price scenarios and the resulting effects on drilling activity and U.S. crude oil and natural gas production. In particular, the analysis highlights the Permian production region of western Texas and eastern New Mexico, which is the most prolific crude oil production region in the United States and the source of most of the country's associated natural gas production.

China Country Analysis Brief
